USGS Multimedia Gallery: Sea-Level Rise, Subsidence, and Wetland Loss

What is happening to areas along the Mississippi River? Watch the video of the USGS - United States Geological Survey. It is a quite intelligible approach, for experts and non-experts alike.
Natural and human processes, combined to global changes, are the main causes of present catastrophe in southern US (mainly in the states of Missouri and Louisiana).
This is a good example of the respect human being should have for Nature.Certainly an example to Brazil, where our congressmen have approved amendments to Brazil's Forest Code allowing deforestation along rivers and mountain slopes. Approximately 85 million hectares of the Amazon could be destroyed. This is an area equivalent to the size of England and France together and is more than the total that has been destroyed until now (73 million ha).
