WORLD EXPENDITURES WITH MILITARY DEFENCE AND WASTES BY CORRUPTION... NO MONEY FOR ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES AND TO FIGHT HUNGER...

[Reproduced from http://www.transparency.org.uk/corruption/statistics-and-quotes]

Tomorrow, 5th June, we celebrate the environment's day, and I remember that United Nations suggest that only 2 per cent of WGP (world gross product) should be sufficient for the world green economy. The total WGP  is USD$ 71.3 trillions, so 2% would be USD$ 1.3 trillion.
Investments would be applied to Agriculture, Building, Energy, Fishery, Environment, Manufacture, Tourism, Transportation, Water, Resources management. Most of these issues are directly or not related to environment issues. And the WGP would be maintained in a  satisfactory  level for a good quality of life. By that is  meant that without depleting natural resources, neither destroying wild life nor polluting our environments.

However,  defence spending  (wars) and corruption,  deteriorate the world capacity to conserve the environment and maintain a good quality of life for every living organism on earth...  human being included, of course.

Military expenditures

General Corruption Statitistics
Let's see some statistics:
1. Nearly half of workers across Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India think bribery and corruption are acceptable ways to survive an economic downturn.
2. More than 40 percent of employees at board and senior manager level said that sales or cost numbers had been manipulated by their company.
3. Fewer than half of respondents knew that their company’s policy contains guidance on gifts or hospitality, and less than a quarter knew of policies on political contributions.
4. More than half of respondents do not know whether their company has specific procedures to guide dealings with government officials.
5. Over 12 months, one in four people paid a bribe when they came into contact with one of nine institutions and services, from health to education to tax authorities.

Some discouraging conclusions:
Illicit Financial Flows, including corruption, bribery, theft and tax evasion, cost developing countries US $1.26 trillion per year, which is equivalent to the economies of Switzerland, South Africa and Belgium combined.  This amount of money could lift the 1.4 billion people living on less than $1.25 a day above this threshold for at least six years.

Nearly three quarters of the 178 countries in the Corruption Perceptions Index score below five, on a scale from 10 (highly clean) to 0 (highly corrupt), suggesting a perception of widespread corruption among public officials.

The Corruption Perceptions Index ranks countries and territories based on how corrupt their public sector is perceived to be.
A country or territory’s score indicates the perceived level of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 - 100, where 0 means that a country is perceived as highly corrupt and 100 means it is perceived as very clean.
The best countries are (2012 ranking):
Denmark............90
Finland...............90
New Zealand.....90
Sweden.............88
Singapore.........87
Switzerland.......86
Australia...........85
Norway..............85
Canada.............84
Netherlands......84
Iceland..............82
Luxembourg.....80
Germany..........79
...
Brazil................69
It is estimated that in 2012 we have lost R$85 billions 'reais' (Brazilian money; US$1 = R$2).

Looking at the Corruption Perceptions Index 2012, it's clear that corruption is a major threat facing humanity. Corruption destroys lives and communities, and undermines countries and institutions. It generates popular anger that threatens to further destabilise societies and exacerbate violent conflicts.

... and environmental issues would certainly be the last on the list,  to be regarded as of  vital importance!!!
